Chevening Scholarships

The Chevening Scholarships 2027–2028 are the UK Government’s fully funded international scholarships for emerging leaders from eligible countries and territories. They support one-year taught Master’s degrees in the United Kingdom and are designed for applicants with strong leadership potential, professional experience, relationship-building ability, and a clear career plan. Applications for the 2027–28 cycle are currently open.

Study Level
Master’s Degree
Chevening funds eligible full-time taught Master’s programmes lasting between 9 and 12 months. PhD, DPhil, part-time, distance-learning, and research-focused MRes programmes are not eligible.
Fields of Study
All fields are potentially eligible, provided the selected programme meets Chevening’s course requirements.
Applicants must select three eligible UK Master’s courses in their Chevening application.
Who Can Apply
Applicants must generally:
- Be a citizen of a Chevening-eligible country or territory
- Hold an undergraduate degree that qualifies them for postgraduate study in the UK
- Have completed their undergraduate studies at least two years before the application deadline
- Have at least 2,800 hours of work experience after completing their undergraduate degree
- Apply to three eligible UK university courses
- Commit to returning to their home country/country of award for at least two years after completing the scholarship.
Work Experience Requirement
Minimum:
2,800 hours of post-undergraduate work experience
This is roughly equivalent to two years of full-time employment. Eligible experience can include employment, part-time work, voluntary work, and paid or unpaid internships, subject to Chevening’s rules.
Scholarship Benefits
Chevening normally covers:
- University tuition fees
- Monthly living stipend
- Economy travel to and from the UK
- Arrival allowance
- Departure allowance
- UK visa application cost
- Travel top-up allowance
- Up to £75 toward required TB testing.
Course Requirements
An eligible programme must normally be:
- Full-time
- Taught Master’s
- Based in the UK
- Starting in autumn 2027
- Between 9 and 12 months long
For MBA programmes, Chevening’s tuition contribution is capped at £22,000, meaning the scholar may need to cover any remaining tuition.
Application Requirements
The online application includes:
- Personal and education information
- Work experience history
- Three UK Master’s course choices
- Details of two referees
- Four application essays covering:
- Leadership and influence
- Relationship building
- Course choices
- Career goals.
Supporting documents and reference letters are required later if the applicant progresses to the interview stage.
