Who Can Apply
To be eligible, applicants must:
- U.S. citizens, U.S. permanent residents, and DACA students
- Undergraduate students currently enrolled at a college or university in the United States
- Students participating in a study abroad program eligible for academic credit at their institution
- Students whose study abroad program lasts at least four weeks or 30 days
- First-year, second-year, third-year, and fourth-year or later undergraduate students
- Students from groups traditionally underrepresented in education abroad, including minority students, first-generation college students, community college students, students with disabilities, student athletes, veterans, and returning learners
Fields of Study
The scholarship supports study abroad across disciplines, with focus areas including business and entrepreneurship, creative and performing arts, environment and sustainability, health and medicine, humanities, international affairs, journalism and media, national security, peace and conflict resolution, public policy, public service, social justice, social science, and STEM. Study of the host-country language is preferred when the language is not English.
Value
- Up to $10,000 for an academic year
- Up to $5,000 for a fall or spring semester
- Summer awards are prorated by the number of weeks, with a minimum award of $1,250
Selection Criteria
Applicants are assessed on:
- Academic rigor and immersion of the study abroad program
- Study of the host-country language when it is not English
- Participation in a non-traditional destination
- Demonstrated financial need
- Representation of a group traditionally underrepresented in education abroad
Required Documents
- Completed online application form
- Financial aid form requiring input from the applicant’s financial aid office
- One faculty recommendation letter at most
