Overview

Harvard Summer School offers immersive summer study abroad programs taught by Harvard faculty in destinations around the world.

Eligibility

Applicants must be at least 18 years old.Applicants must have completed at least one year of college or be first-year students.Applicants must be in good academic standing.Students enrolled at any accredited university are welcome to apply.

Benefits

Programs last five to eight weeks and offer immersive academic study abroad experiences.The program fee includes tuition, accommodations, scheduled program activities, and some meals.Limited funding is available for admitted and eligible Harvard College students receiving financial aid. Awards cover tuition plus a travel stipend but do not cover all expenses.Programs provide opportunities to study language, culture, history, the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences in an international setting.

Application Process

Applications for Summer 2027 open in early December 2026. Applicants may apply to one program.The application link for each program will be available on the webpage for the desired program. All applications must be received by January 28, 2027.

Who Can Apply

To be eligible, applicants must:

Fields of Study

Foreign language and culture, humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, climate science, ecology, archaeology, history, public art, cultural studies, social justice, political science, and regional studies.

Value

  • The program fee includes tuition, accommodations, scheduled program activities, and some meals.
  • A limited number of admitted and eligible Harvard College students may receive funding covering tuition plus a travel stipend.
  • Students can study subjects within the cultural, historical, social, and geographic context of the host location.

Selection Criteria

Applicants are assessed on:

  • Applicants must meet the minimum age and college-study requirements.
  • Applicants must demonstrate good academic standing.
  • Applications include a statement of interest and may require program-specific materials such as letters of recommendation or references.
  • Harvard Summer School may remove an applicant from consideration or withdraw enrollment for health, safety, behavioral, reputational, or regulatory compliance concerns.
