The Future Leaders in Quantum Computing (FLiQC) PhD Scholarship funds doctoral researchers within Australia’s ARC Training Centre for Future Leaders in Quantum Computing, a national program spanning five partner universities.

FLiQC is administered in partnership with the Sydney Quantum Academy, and successful applicants complete their PhD at one of five partner institutions: University of Sydney, UNSW Sydney, University of Technology Sydney, Macquarie University, or University of Western Australia.

Who Can Apply?

The scholarship is open to both domestic and international students, but requires a secured supervisor and a PhD offer of admission before applying.

  • Hold, or be completing, an honours/bachelor’s degree in physics, mathematics, computer science, electrical engineering, chemistry, materials science, or a related field (prior quantum experience is not required)
  • Secure a supervisor endorsement and a full-time PhD offer of admission at one of the five FLiQC partner universities
  • Not be in full-time employment
  • Not hold another primary PhD stipend (e.g. an RTP scholarship) concurrently

Scholarship Benefits

Recipients receive:

  • A stipend of AUD 42,754 per year (2026 rate, indexed annually), for up to 4 years
  • Up to 12 months of embedded industry placement and professional development
  • Mentorship and training through the FLiQC program (commercialisation, IP, leadership, and communication skills)

How to Apply

Applicants must first arrange a FLiQC-aligned PhD project and supervisor at one of the five partner universities before applying for the scholarship itself.
