A 12-month Fogarty-sponsored clinical research training fellowship for eligible doctoral and postdoctoral health-profession trainees in the United States and collaborating countries.

Eligibility

The fellowship is intended for doctoral and postdoctoral trainees in the health professions.U.S. citizens or permanent residents may apply as postdoctoral trainees if they completed a doctoral or terminal degree within the last six years, are currently in or recently completed relevant postdoctoral or advanced-degree training, or will receive the degree by June 30, 2027.U.S. citizens or permanent residents may apply as predoctoral trainees if they are enrolled in a doctoral or terminal degree program and have completed at least one year of study.Citizens or permanent residents of collaborating low- and middle-income countries may apply as postdoctoral trainees if they meet the degree requirements, are affiliated with an approved partner institution, and will receive the required degree by June 30, 2027.Master's or doctoral students from collaborating low- and middle-income countries are not eligible under the stated criteria.

Who Can Apply

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • U.S. citizens and permanent residents who are eligible postdoctoral or predoctoral trainees.
  • Postdoctoral trainees who completed a doctoral or terminal degree within the last six years, are currently undertaking or recently completed relevant postdoctoral or advanced-degree training, or will receive the degree by June 30, 2027.
  • Predoctoral trainees currently enrolled in a doctoral or terminal degree program who have completed at least one year of study.
  • Citizens or permanent residents of collaborating low- and middle-income countries who meet the postdoctoral eligibility requirements, are affiliated with an approved partner institution, and will receive the required degree by June 30, 2027.
  • Applicants from the health professions interested in clinical research training and global health research.

Selection Criteria

Applicants are assessed on:

  • Applicants may have a clearly defined research project that requires funding and dedicated time.
  • Applicants without an independent project may contribute to a mentor’s broader research goals.
  • Mentors should have mentoring experience as well as research and publication experience.
  • Each consortium must have 60% U.S. participants, with preference for postdoctoral trainees, and 40% participants from low- and middle-income countries; participants from low- and middle-income countries must be postdoctoral trainees.
