Who Can Apply

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Indiana residents who are U.S. citizens or eligible non-citizens
  • Students who currently reside in, or resided in immediately before enrolling in college, Allen, Marion, Lake, St. Joseph, or Vanderburgh County
  • First-time undergraduate students admitted to or attending an eligible Indiana institution as full-time students
  • Students pursuing or intending to pursue a course of study that enables them to teach in an underserved Indiana county after graduation

Selection Criteria

Applicants are assessed on:

  • Applicants must be full-time students or plan to enroll full-time.
  • Applicants must meet the cumulative GPA required for admission to the institution’s school of education.
  • Recipients must agree in writing to apply for a teaching position at a school in an underserved Indiana county after teacher certification.
  • If hired, recipients must teach in an underserved Indiana county for at least three years.
  • Recipients must reapply each year for renewal and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Recipients must meet any other minimum renewal criteria established by the Commission.
