KAIST offers multiple government, university, external, academic promotion, labor, financial aid and miscellaneous scholarships with support determined by academic performance, income, enrollment status and other criteria.

Eligibility

Who Can Apply

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Enrolled KAIST undergraduate and graduate students, subject to the requirements of the relevant scholarship.
  • Students meeting the stated credit, GPA, income, academic standing, departmental, employment or community-service requirements for a specific scholarship.
  • National Scholarship applicants and recipients who meet the applicable government or KAIST requirements.
  • Students selected for external scholarships according to the requirements of the relevant foundation.

  • National Excellence Scholarship for Natural Sciences and Engineering: admission fee and full school support fees; study grants and living expenses are provided separately.
  • National Scholarship (Type 1): support ranges from 15% to 100% of the standard amount of 2,250,000 KRW per semester, depending on income tier.
  • Low Income Family Scholarship: support may cover the difference in school support fees, full school support fees, or tuition plus full school support fees, depending on the student’s National Scholarship results and GPA.
  • Financial Aid Scholarship: full school support fees or the difference in school support fees.
  • Department Honors Scholarship: 250,000 KRW per month for the department valedictorian and 200,000 KRW per month for department salutatorians and academic honors students.

  • Family of Bereaved KAIST Faculty Scholarship: 300,000 KRW per month.
  • Autonomous Student Community Executive Scholarship: 400,000 KRW to 600,000 KRW.

Selection Criteria

Applicants are assessed on:

  • For continuing registration scholarships, students generally must complete at least 12 credits in the previous semester and meet the applicable cumulative GPA requirement.
  • Presidential Science and National Excellence Scholarships require at least 12 credits and a GPA of at least 3.13/4.3.
  • National Scholarship (Type 1) and several low-income and financial aid scholarships require at least 12 credits and a GPA of at least 2.50/4.3, subject to the relevant income and scholarship conditions.
  • The Financial Aid Scholarship requires at least 12 credits and a GPA of at least 3.00/4.3, with support determined in relation to National Scholarship eligibility and school support fees.
  • Department Honors Scholarship recipients must complete at least 15 credits and be selected as department valedictorian, salutatorian or an academic honors student.
  • Academic Excellence Scholarship recipients must complete at least 18 credits and achieve a GPA of at least 3.70/4.3; the listed eligibility applies to IT Management and Information Communications.
  • Department Development Scholarship selection may consider grades, income and community service.
  • Study Grant recipients must have a previous-semester GPA of at least 3.00/4.3 and meet the stated external scholarship conditions.
  • Labor scholarships are subject to the relevant work, enrollment, degree-level and income requirements, including monthly labor limits where applicable.
  • Undergraduate Financial Aid is available to enrolled students within the eight-semester enrollment limit; Master’s Financial Aid is for National Scholarship master’s students within the four-semester enrollment limit.
  • Children of deceased tenured KAIST faculty may qualify for the Family of Bereaved KAIST Faculty Scholarship.
  • Active executive members of the Autonomous Student Community may qualify for the related executive scholarship.
  • Scholarship recipients must observe the applicable restrictions on duplicate scholarships.
