Who Can Apply

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Have completed a Bachelor Degree with First Class Honours, or equivalent level
  • Be eligible to enrol full-time, on-campus in the PhD program at UniSQ
  • Be an international student — not an Australian or New Zealand citizen or Australian permanent resident
  • Commence or continue their PhD study in 2027

Fields of Study

Applications in all areas of research are welcome, but proposed research should align with one of UniSQ’s flagship research areas. Applicants should discuss the most closely aligned flagship area with their potential supervisor before applying.

Scholarship Value

  • Stipend of AUD $39,000 per annum
  • Tuition fees paid by UniSQ for a maximum of three years full-time equivalent study (periods of study already completed towards the degree are deducted)

Optional Industry Stream

Each flagship scholarship offers an optional Industry Stream requiring a mandatory 60-day industry internship, with co-funded scholarships and industry stipend top-ups considered highly desirable. This stream requires a Letter of Support from an industry partner (identified by the applicant or supervisor). There are also dedicated scholarships for women in STEMM and students with disabilities.

Selection Criteria

Applicants are assessed on:

  • Academic achievement (class of honours or equivalent, postgraduate performance, academic prizes/awards)
  • Research capability (publications, conference presentations, research internship experience, creative works)
  • Research project and environment (alignment with UniSQ research priorities, relevance to the Australian research context, external support, articulated resource requirements)
  • Supervisory team (publication record, complementary expertise, supervisory capacity, resource support)

  • Preliminary Research Thesis Topic Proposal
  • Documentation confirming citizenship
