Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme | Research Postgraduate Programmes

The Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme supports outstanding students from around the world to pursue PhD programmes at Lingnan University in Hong Kong.

Who Can Apply

To be eligible, applicants must:

• Students from around the world seeking admission to PhD programmes at Lingnan University.
• Applicants who meet Lingnan University’s admission requirements and are selected for nomination by the University.

Value

• Monthly stipend of HK$28,700 for 2026-27, subject to annual review.
• Conference/research-related travel allowance of up to HK$14,400 per year, subject to annual review.
• Funding for a maximum of three years.
• For awardees with a normative four-year study period, Lingnan University will provide the same level of fellowship and travel allowance during the fourth year.

Selection Criteria

Applicants are assessed on:

• Lingnan University will select outstanding and brilliant applicants for nomination.
• The Research Grants Council will establish selection panels to assess nominations submitted by participating institutions.
• Applicants nominated but not finally awarded the Fellowship, as well as applicants not selected for nomination, may be considered for PhD admission with Postgraduate Studentship awards.

Required Documents

• A full application submitted through Lingnan University’s electronic application system.
• The reference number assigned through the RGC Admission System.
• Payment of the applicable application fee.

How to Apply

Applicants must first apply through the RGC Admission System at www.rgc.edu.hk/hkphd between 1 September and 1 December 2026, HKT 12:00. After receiving a reference number, applicants must submit a full application through Lingnan University’s electronic system by 1 December 2026, HKT 23:59, quoting the reference number and settling the application fee. Applicants should select “HK PhD Fellowship Scheme (2027-28)” as the application type. Late applications will not be accepted.

Application Deadline

The application period runs from 1 September to 1 December 2026. The RGC application must be submitted by 1 December 2026 at HKT 12:00, followed by Lingnan University’s electronic application by 1 December 2026 at HKT 23:59.
