Overview

An in-person, unpaid internship program in Panama City for eligible undergraduate Florida State University students, offering academic credit and placements with local organizations and agencies.

Eligibility

Open to degree-seeking undergraduate Florida State University students.Applicants must have been accepted into an upper-division major at the time of application.Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 FSU GPA.Spanish comprehension or conversation may be required depending on the placement.Part-time interns must also enroll in classes at FSU Panama.

Benefits

Internships may be part-time or full-time, depending on the placement.Students earn internship or Directed Individual Study credit.The program fee includes 12 academic credits, shared dorm-style housing, selected excursions and activities, some meals, international health insurance, on-site pastoral support, administrative and academic support, the visa application fee, and scheduled group airport pick-up.Most financial aid options may apply toward the program fee, and payment deferment options are available.Internships are unpaid.

Application Process

Applicants must meet with an International Programs internship advisor before applying. Advising is available through Zoom drop-in hours on Mondays and Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and Thursdays from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., through a Campus Connect appointment, or by emailing IP-Intern@fsu.edu.After the advising meeting, applicants receive an application link. Once the application is completed and the application fee is processed, access to the IP portal is provided for submission of the required documents.

Who Can Apply

To be eligible, applicants must:

Biology; Computer Science, including webpages and technology; International Affairs; Social Work; United Nations affiliates; other fields may be considered in consultation with FSU Panama staff.

Selection Criteria

Applicants are assessed on:

  • Placement is subject to availability and cannot be guaranteed.
  • Specific placements may require particular skills or previous experience.
  • Applicants participate in an interview with the company or organization offering the placement.
  • If no placement is identified within 30 days of the program start, the student may switch to the broad curriculum program in Panama or receive a refund of program fees, excluding the application fee.

How to Apply
